If you receive pension income from a foreign country during the year, and Canada has a tax treaty with that country, your pension may be tax-free in Canada. You must claim the qualifying pension income, but you may also claim an offsetting deduction on line 256 of your personal income tax return. If this income is tax-free as a result of a tax treaty, it does not qualify for the pension income credit.
