Tip 111 - Can rental properties be used for income splitting?

Rental properties can be used to split income with a lower income spouse or common-law partner. Use equity in family-owned assets to raise the down payment on a rental property and finance the remaining portion. Split the income from the property between you and your spouse or common-law partner.

Rental income is considered earned income for determining RRSP contribution room, so the lower income spouse will also earn RRSP contribution room.
