Tip 27 - Why should a family file their returns together?

If you are supporting one or more individuals, you may be eligible to claim tax credits for them. Not only can you claim credits for your spouse or common-law partner, children or certain other relatives living with you, you may also be eligible to receive a transfer of any unused credits they have on their 2001 personal income tax returns. Since items such as donations and medical expenses can be claimed on a family basis, file your entire family’s tax returns at the same time so that you can receive the maximum tax savings.
